Church

We believe strongly in not only growing in our faith, but sharing our faith in Jesus and expressing our love for God in a practical and caring way. As part of the universal Christian church our mission is to share the good news of Jesus Christ, encourage others to believe in Him, be an open, supportive fellowship and reach out into our community sharing Christian love and concern.

Our Sunday worship forms an important part of our church life. It gives us a chance to get together to spend time in worship to God, praying and reflecting on the Bible. Our 10am service is open to all and you will receive a warm welcome from the moment you step through the door.

Our services include varied music which can be upbeat, some reflective, some traditional and some contemporary. As well as congregational singing, there are typically items from our adult and junior choirs and from our adult and junior brass bands.

The Christian teaching is not only for the adults, the service includes a children's spot which provides fun Christian teaching which is enjoyed by all ages. There is also a Sunday School for the children following the 10am service.

Our Children's Ministries

Within the children's ministry we have a wide range of weekly activities.
Our singing company (children's choir) sing every week in our Sunday service and rehearse every week. Our YP Band (children's brass band) also rehearse weekly and play during numerous services throughout the year.
Every sunday morning after the church service the children go into sunday school where they are taught about the bible in fun and different ways. The older children go into a cell group (bible study) where they can talk about how the bible relates to their lives.
On the first Sunday night of every month we have 'Only boys/girls allowed' (12+) where they can get together and enjoy each others fellowship.
On the 3rd sunday of every month we have a 'Youth Fellowship' (13+) where members of our church invite the youth into their homes so they can all get to know each other better and have fun.
Messy Church is run on a Sunday afternoon every other month by a group of volunteers from our church where we invite children of all ages and their families in to provide a safe and fun environment to learn about the bible in many different ways.

Our Day Centre

Our day care centre lounge is open to service users on Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 3.30pm. We offer day care to older people who require support which will enable them to remain living in their own homes. The day care offered includes transport to and from the centre, lunch, tea, coffee and toast and other refreshments, entertainment as well as the company of other service users and staff and volunteers. In addition, this service can mean carers are able to gain some respite and time for themselves, safe in the knowledge that their loved one is being well looked after.

In addition our lounge is open to anyone to drop in for tea or coffee between the hours of 10am and 1pm everyday. Anyone interested in the day centre is welcome to drop by and have a look round.

Our Luncheon Club

Our luncheon club is open Monday to Friday and a freshly cooked two course meal is served at 1pm. The food is cooked in our kitchen where we employ a cook and a kitchen assistant. At our last food hygiene inspection we were again awarded ‘5 stars’ which means our kitchen cleanliness and food preparation is of a very high standard.

Membership of our luncheon club is free and pre-booking is not required. The cost of lunch is very reasonable and all older people are welcome to attend.

Our Pre-School

Smiley Pre-School caters for 30 children per day aged 2 ½ - 5yrs old. Sessions run on Monday to Friday from 9.15am-12.15pm (Term time only). We are Ofsted registered and gained an ‘Outstanding' Ofsted report in January 2011. All of our Smiley Pre-School staff are mature, fully police checked and hold appropriate childcare qualifications. With a low staff turnover the children are able to build strong relationships with the staff; this helps them to feel safe and secure with a positive attitude to learning. Our weekly programme is linked with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Here at Smiley Pre-School we focus on developing strong parent/carer relationships and we enjoy taking time to speak to parents about their child(ren). Parents are welcome to pop in at any time; we have an open door policy. We also contact parents to re-assure them that their child has settled if problems arise at ‘dropping off' time.
If you would like more information please contact Hilary Johnston (Pre-School Supervisor) on 01702 478092 or email:hilary.johnston@salvationarmy.org.uk
