Victor was looking after two big herds of cattle at a farm near Mchinji when he was rescued by a local government official.
“I was recruited from my mother’s house. I was out picking some vegetables and when I came home there was a strange man there. My mother told me to go with him. I didn’t want to go but my mother told me I had to.
I spent the whole day in the field herding cattle and I didn’t even have time to have a bath. I would spend the whole day on my own and come back in the evening. I would have some food sometimes and sometimes I wasn’t given anything.”
Victor spent several months at the Salvation Army’s anti child trafficking centre in Mchinji, preparing to return to his family.
