Supporting people who need it most

The Salvation Army’s work during the current crisis has adapted and expanded to meet the need in local communities.

In recent months, across the UK we have been: providing hot meals for homeless people in temporary accommodation, increasing the number of food boxes we provide to families in need, feeding NHS frontline workers, and providing welfare packs and telephone contact for elderly people and those who usually access our services. These are just a few examples of how we are helping vulnerable people, but the list goes on.

Mother and child appeal

Families in particular are currently facing greater difficulties as a result of the crisis. The number of families The Salvation Army are helping with food and other necessities has increased by over 60 per cent*

One example of a family who reached out for our help was Jess and her partner Ben. They have two children including a six-month-old baby. Ben works in the building industry, but the work dried up when the coronavirus lockdown started, they desperately needed our help.

Jess approached The Salvation Army and our local officer Captain Emma went to her home with a big bag of food – as well as formula and nappies for the baby. Jess couldn’t hold back the tears of happiness and relief. Jess and Ben are just one of thousands of families The Salvation Army has helped during the crisis.

As long as people need our help, we will never abandon them.

Please help us to help vulnerable people, the need is great.
