A team of volunteers is on hand to offer pastoral support and refreshments to music fans coming to this year’s 2014 Leeds Festival in Bramham Park.

The team of around 50 volunteers from Salvation Army Church – Leeds Central Corps, will be available to offer round the clock pastoral care and support as well as its popular hot soup and rolls, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and muffins.

More than 20,000 revelers are expected to pay a visit to The Salvation Army Emergency Response Unit vehicle over the course of the event to refresh themselves with a value for money snack and hot drink, or to off load any of their personal concerns, that may arise during the Leeds Festival 20th-25th August 2014.

Last year, more than 20,000 drinks and 14,000 rolls were sold by The Salvation Army at the festival alone and this will be the fifth year that the Army has had a presence at  Leeds Festival. In Reading The Salvation Army has been attending the sister festival there since 1971 and offering a similar service.   Major Andrew Spivey, church leader of Leeds Central Corps, said:

“Once again we are delighted to be coming along to this year’s Leeds Festival and providing a caring service to the thousands of music fans who will descend upon the festival for a weekend of fun. We’ll be offering affordable drinks, a warm welcome and a listening ear should the need arise.  We are thrilled to see people seeking us out on their return each year to our regular pitch and we see this as an opportunity of connecting with younger people and demonstrating Christianity in a practical way..”

The Salvation Army Emergency Response Unit will be situated as in previous years in Traders Alley on the Blue Campsite and within earshot of the live music action.   For further information about our involvement at Leeds Festival contact:  Major Andrew Spivey – 0113 244 5898.
