A Southampton company which designs and builds outdoor play areas and equipment is buying Christmas dinner for local residents who otherwise may be lonely over the festive period.

West End-based Greenspan Projects Ltd has donated almost £900 so that The Salvation Army can provide a Christmas meal for over 150 people in the Southampton area.

Rod Morton, Director of Greenspan Projects Ltd, said:

"We are pleased to support The Salvation Army in all the good work they do, particularly at this time of year when some people are at their loneliest. Many will be enjoying Christmas in warm and comfortable homes and it’s easy to forget about those not so fortunate. I believe it’s a good time of year to spread some sweetness and light.”

The Salvation Army works throughout the year to provide compassionate support, a listening ear and practical help to people who are vulnerable or in need.

During Christmas, this work includes putting together festive food boxes and gift parcels for families and people who are struggling to make ends meet.

In some areas – such as Southampton, The Salvation Army will cook a Christmas meal for people who would otherwise be without company.

The Salvation Army’s Divisional Mission Enabler for Southern Division – Major Beverley Robilliard said:

“Christmas is a happy time for many, but for others it can be a sad and lonely time of the year, but The Salvation Army is always there to support people in their hour of need.

“We are very grateful to Rod and the staff at Greenspan Projects Ltd for this generous donation which will go towards providing a Christmas meal for over 150 people across Southampton this Christmas”
