A GLOUCESTERSHIRE church will be holding a remembrance service on Sunday 14 October for parents who have lost babies and people affected by baby loss.

‘A Life Remembered’ is taking place at Littledean United Reformed Church to coincide with Baby Loss Awareness Week 2018.
The Salvation Army’s Forest of Dean corps is holding the service for people who may have lost babies during pregnancy, at birth or in infancy.

Lizzie Cox is from The Salvation Army in the Forest of Dean and her own experiences of baby loss led her to organise the first ‘A Life Remembered Service’ two years ago.
“After a six-year struggle with infertility, my husband and I were blessed beyond measure to find out that we were going to be parents again. However, at around nine weeks into my pregnancy and several scans, we were given the heartbreaking news that there was ‘no heartbeat’.  In that instant, the pain and the heartache were palpable in everything I did” explained Lizzie.

“We found out shortly after that one in four families are affected by baby loss and yet there did not seem to be a special service dedicated to families to facilitate their grieving. At the Salvation Army in the Forest of Dean, we seek to stand with anyone who has experienced baby loss and support them however we can.

“We are passionate about supporting families through baby loss and that’s how the ‘A Life Remembered’ services came to be. We understand everyone’s grief journey is unique and different and at the service on 14 October we will offer a warm, safe, supportive and caring environment for people who have lost a baby.”

During the service, there will be an opportunity to light a candle, share experiences or spend some quiet time in reflection.
The ‘A Life Remembered’ service is taking place on Sunday 14 October at 3.30pm at the Littledean United Reform Church, Broad Street, Littledean GL14 3NH.
