The excitement of Coventry City’s first league match in the city for two years was brought right into the living rooms of football fans at The Salvation Army’s Youell Care Home.

Residents at the care home in Binley were given television passes and had their living rooms transformed with balloons and flags for the game against Nottingham Forest on Sunday 8 August thanks to  Coventry Building Society.

Players Liam Kelly and Matty Godden also sent special video messages to residents.

Hayley Peaple, Salvation Army Chaplain who is based at Youell Court, said: “Football is a passion for many of our residents and staff and we enjoyed being able to create the big match atmosphere.

“Our homes are places where people are cherished, our care is rooted in the values of love, respect, boldness, compassion, accountability, integrity and in this case, sporting passions.

“We want to thank Coventry Building Society for putting a smile on the faces of our residents.”

Darin Landon, Chief Commercial Officer at Coventry Building Society, said: “The ‘Arena at Home’ initiative is part of the company’s plans to welcome fans and players back to the Coventry Building Society Arena, formerly the Ricoh Arena. Whilst the focus is on Coventry Building Society Arena itself, we want the whole of the Coventry community to benefit from the great things happening there, so we delivered a taster of that match day experience to some of the fans in the community who couldn’t join us.

“It’s a key objective of the partnership to turn the venue into a focal point for the community, and for Coventry Building Society Arena to bring together people and organisations across the city to make a positive difference to everyone who lives here. Our Coventry Building Society ‘Arena at Home’ experience is a small part of that, and we hope those involved enjoyed feeling part of what was a big occasion for the whole of Coventry on Sunday.”
