Commonwealth Games: Water Distribution Programme

published on 29 Jul 2014

As the Commonwealth Games enters its second week of action, our teams of volunteers are continuing to keep travellers hydrated by giving out water at Central Station, the city’s main train station.

Those who have visited the church and charity’s water stall say it has been a godsend, especially as the sun continues to shine.

Major Russell Wyles, the leader of The Salvation Army in the west of Scotland, said: "We are involved in giving out water for two reasons. Firstly, Jesus said to us when you give a glass of water to those that are in need it is as if you are giving it to him. So in serving the public we are actually serving Jesus.   "The second reason is that folks are coming into Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games but some are not bringing enough fluid with them so we need to keep them healthy and lubricated so they can enjoy the experience of being in Glasgow.

Our thanks to the volunteers, who have helped us give out 14 tonnes of water so far, and our friends at Network Rail for giving us our pitch here at Glasgow Central.
