Charities join forces to help feed struggling families

Mirfield Salvation Army has teamed up with The Huddersfield Town Foundation to provide food parcels to struggling families – and is reaching more people than ever before.

Since the start of the pandemic, Mirfield Salvation Army has given out more than 750 food parcels, whereas before it would be around two a week.

The Town Foundation has delivered 30 parcels made up of Salvation Army donations to a different one of its school Breakfast Clubs in the North Kirklees area, since December, helping 270 families.

The partnership compliments the deliveries made on request to the Corps and has allowed the church and charity to reach more families than ever despite the Huddersfield Road Hall being closed due to the pandemic.

Salvation Army volunteer Aidan Grills, who is leading the project, said: “We want to thank Huddersfield Town Foundation for their support in what has been a tough year for many. This partnership has allowed us to deliver more food parcels to struggling families this winter than ever before.

“We also want to thank the community as without their generous donations, none of this would be possible. We will continue to work together to make sure that families unable to make ends meet get the help they need.”

There are 41 schools signed up to the Foundation’s Breakfast Club scheme with each school identifying families that would benefit from the support.

Lisa Bottomley, Fundraising Executive at the Town Foundation said: “Our partnership with the Salvation Army has been a great way to supplement our Breakfast Club offering across the North Kirklees area.

“We’re extremely grateful to them and look forward to continuing to work together over the coming weeks and months.”
