Care home resident celebrates centenary

published on 1 Jun 2015

The Hawthorns Care Home in Buxton has been celebrating the 100th birthday of one of its residents, May along with her family, fellow residents and Mayor, Stewart Young.

Staff at the care home organised a special celebration service followed by coffee and cake.

To show their appreciation for the care May has received at the Hawthorns, her family and friends have donated to the home by the church and charity in honour of her birthday.

Born on 20th May 1915, May was brought up in Disley by her grandparents who were bakers and regularly delivered to the nearby stately home Lyme Park.

May was a seamstress in Manchester for many years and in 1939 she married Alf. The couple went on to have three daughters, one of whom now lives in Switzerland, another who lives in Canada and a third who lives in Berkshire.

This year we are celebrating our 150 years of transforming lives and still at the heart of every community today, supporting those in need.
