Octogenarian Ken Bovey has received the British Empire Medal for a lifetime’s voluntary charitable service through The Salvation Army.
The event began in Sneinton, Nottingham – birthplace of Salvation Army Founder William Booth – on Saturday morning when the Lord Mayor of Nottingham (Councillor Leon Unczur) greeted the Army's world leader. Later, numerous Salvationists witnessed to their faith in the city's Market Square. Lincoln Band and Nottingham Arnold Corps (church) members shared the gospel with passers-by, information stalls attracted interest and the divisional emergency vehicle served free refreshments.
A fringe event at the Conservative Party Conference on Monday featured the work of The Salvation Army's Employment Plus in particular its success at helping young people into work through the Work Programme.
Only eight weeks after the excitement of the London 2012 Mountain Bike event, the Hadleigh Farm Olympic Mountain Bike venue once again came to life on Friday 5 October, as Essex County Council and The Salvation Army teamed up with British Cycling to host a number of sporting and cultural activities at the venue.
