New leadership for The Salvation Army in the UK and Republic of Ireland

South-African Commissioner Clive Adams and his wife Norwegian-born Commissioner Marianne are the new Territorial Leaders for the UK with the Republic of Ireland. The couple are appointed to the Territory having spent more than two years in charge of The Salvation Army’s work in Norway, Iceland and the Faeroes.

Based at the church and charity's headquarters in Southwark, London, the Commissioners take on responsibility for more than 800 Salvation Army churches and social work centres, as well as many thousands of ministers, church members, employees and volunteers in the UK and Ireland. Commissioner Clive will be officially installed as Territorial Commander and Commissioner Marianne as Territorial President of Women’s Ministries in a service on Saturday 16 February 2013 6:30pm at London’s Regent Hall Salvation Army. The service will be conducted by The Salvation Army's global leader General Linda Bond.

The Adams take over from Commissioners André and Silvia Cox who have moved to appointments at The Salvation Army's International Headquarters in London, as Chief of the Staff and World President of Women's Ministries.

Commissioner Clive, who is a teacher by profession, is excited by the fact that The Salvation Army is a needs-based ministry and dreams that South Africa will win the cricket World Cup. Commissioner Marianne has a passion for the marginalised, loves elephants and enjoys nature.

The couple married in 1990 following an unusual courtship conducted over the expanse of two continents using only letters, the occasional telephone call and a total of six weeks together over the space of two years. They have two children, Robert (21) and Kristin (19), both living in Norway.

Their appointments together as Salvation Army officers include service as corps leaders, youth secretaries, leaders of a Training College for officers, and in divisional leadership. They were appointed as leaders of the Norway, Iceland & Faeroes Territory in December 2010.

Tickets for the installation at Regent Hall are available on the door priced at £3.00.
