A US Salvation Army volunteer was hiking through the Himalayan Hills when he captured a dramatic 7.3-magnitude earthquake on film.

The footage, recorded by Michael Andrew, also shows terrifying landslides triggered by the quake in the Sindhulpalchowk area, following the second earthquake to hit Nepal in the last few weeks.

In his blog, Michael wrote: “I'm good. We were hiking out near the epicenter in Sindhupalchowk when it happened - though we were caught in a landslide and I jumped behind a huge rock for cover. The tree line about 100 meters above me absorbed it, but the path we were on 20 minutes earlier was hit. Close call.”

Since the first Nepal Earthquake, which shook the region on Saturday 25 April, a team of Salvation Army emergency responders have been distributing essential supplies to victims in Kathmandu and hard-to-reach communities. We continuously pray for the safety of our officers and volunteers, who are risking their lives to provide relief to devastated communities, on the ground in Nepal.
