Lilian is a member of The Salvation Army church in Hythe. She took her Leap of Faith when she jumped out of a plane... at the age of 79.
“I’ve loved fairground rides all my life, and I’m always looking for my next adrenaline rush.
“So far, I’ve been on a hot-air balloon ride, a helicopter trip, and a glider flight. Once I even got a tour guide to lend me his briefcase so I could sledge down a small section of the Austrian Alps! The hot-air balloon was a little too slow for me. Just because I’m 79 doesn’t mean I’m frightened about getting up to great heights and speeds!
“Last year, I decided to take it a step further and do a tandem jump from a plane. I’ve always wanted to take part in a skydive so I decided to take the plunge, both literally and metaphorically!
“I go to The Salvation Army in Hythe and thought it was also a great opportunity to raise some funds for them as well. I’m a lifelong member of The Salvation Army church and have supported in a number of ways over the years - from helping in the parent-and-toddler group to teaching young children in the Sunday school to writing to people who are unwell or unable to attend church so that they know they are missed.
“The skydive itself was unforgettable - God’s creation is simply beautiful and seeing it from 12,000ft was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. As we got ready for the jump I didn’t feel nervous at all, although I’m not sure I can say the same thing for my husband!
“Through the jump, we ended up raising over £500 for The Salvation Army so they can continue to be there for the community in Hythe.
“It was one of the most incredible and rewarding experiences of my life and I would do it again in a heartbeat!”
