This International Day of Older People, The Salvation Army is urging people to consider their own identity, and realise that everyone has a calling and purpose to fulfil, no matter their age.
To coincide with UN International Day of Older People on October 1st.The Salvation Army has launched a resource pack aimed at helping churches to engage and encourage the older members of their communities to realise their potential in retirement.
The pack offers ideas and guidance to help churches inspire older generations to see their retirement as an opportunity to receive a new calling from God and use their skills and experiences in a practical way in their church or local community. The pack for churches includes a sermon outline, prayer guidance, games, and discussion notes for corps leaders.
Andrew Wileman, The Salvation Army’s Assistant Director of Older People’s Ministries, said:
“Many older people achieve incredible things during retirement. International Day of Older People is a wonderful opportunity for churches to help encourage their congregations and older people’s groups to realise the potential older people have to contribute and fulfil their God-given potential in their churches and communities.”
