Employer Partnership Pledge
Finding you the right people is only the start….
Too many people want to work but find it hard to get a job because of a lack of support and experience. To help overcome those barriers our award-winning employability programme Employment Plus helps people facing significant barriers to work who need more support than standard employment programmes can offer.
Our professional Employability Practitioners spend extensive one to one time with each jobseeker, considering not just their employment history but also their personalities, experiences, skills and life goals. We help them to find roles that are suitable and motivate them. We don’t pressure people into taking jobs that wouldn’t be right for them or would leave them financially worse off. Once we have identified suitable roles, we tailor the support we provide from application to interview, and in-work support for the crucial starting work phase. Over the last 10 years our Employability Practitioners have worked with employers to support over 14,000 people into sustained employment.
If you are passionate about helping people achieve independence through employment, whilst strengthening your workforce and supporting your local community, we invite you to sign our Employer Partnership Pledge.
Who are Employment Plus?
The Salvation Army Employment Plus helps unemployed and under-employed people to be independent and to achieve their full potential by making a positive difference in their lives.
We opened the UKs first Labour Exchange in the 1890s and have been helping people find employment ever since – In 2007 we started our Employment Plus programme to provide professional support to people facing significant barriers to work who need more support than standard employment programmes – so far we have helped over 14,000 people into work.
Our Employability Practitioners thoroughly assess each jobseeker, considering not just their employment history but also their personalities, experiences, and life goals to help tailor the support we provide to fit their needs
We value building strong relationships with businesses like yours. Our pledge will place employers at the heart of our mission, inspiring our participants about the benefits of work.
Modern slavery isn’t just a crime of the past - it’s happening across the UK today, in big cities, small towns and rural communities. People are tricked, threatened or forced into work, exploitation or crime for someone else’s profit.
As prime contractors of the Government’s Modern Slavery Victim Care Contract, The Salvation Army has supported more than 24,000 survivors to rebuild their lives, offering safe accommodation, counselling, medical care and specialist advice.
Why Employment Matters to Survivors
Finding safe, meaningful work is a vital part of recovery. For many survivors, employment restores independence, confidence and hope. It helps people reconnect with their communities and reduce the risk of being re-exploited.
But survivors face many barriers - from gaps in education and employment history to trauma, language challenges and legal restrictions. That’s why The Salvation Army’s Anti Trafficking and Modern Slavery team works closely with its Employment Plus service to provide specialist help for survivors to gain skills, training and sustainable jobs suited to their goals and abilities.
We provide trauma-informed, personalised support that may include:
- Access to skills training and qualifications
- Help preparing for work or volunteering
- Connections to supportive employers
- Mentoring and financial help through our Survivor Support Fund to buy essential items or fund training.
Every survivor’s journey is different. Our teams help people build confidence, recognise their strengths and take steps towards independence and employment at their own pace
