Commonwealth Games: Youngsters gripped by Commonwealth Games fever

Young people at Salvation Army centres around Scotland have been enjoying all kinds of sports activities to get in the Commonwealth Games spirit.

The Salvation Army is running an initiative called Sport For Good, which is using Glasgow 2014 to establish a sporting legacy.   

In Cumbernauld, around 50 youngsters have been enjoying a Commonwealth Games-themed sports cafe, where they have been watching the Games live on a big screen and taking part in a range of sporting activities.  

Caitlyn McVey, 9, said: "I'm having an amazing time at Cumbernauld Salvation Army and have made some new friends. It's been so much fun to watch the sports on TV then go outside and do some ourselves."  

Shelley Picken, from The Salvation Army, has helped organise the sports cafe and said: "It's a good way to show kids that church is more than just about coming on a Sunday. It's about coming to other things during the week.
 

"All of the kids have really loved coming back everyday and seeing the new friends they have made."   Our church at Clouden Road is one of many Salvation Army churches across Scotland that have received additional funding from their divisional headquarters to run summer activities designed to establish a sporting legacy.,
