How can I take part in the challenge?
👉 Your first step is to join the 30 Tallest Buildings Facebook group, by following this link and then click on “Join Group”. Once you’ve joined the group, you can register for your fabulous free scratch poster and t-shirt, set up your Facebook fundraising page, get fun info about the buildings you will climb, be inspired by your fellow #SallyArmyClimbers and find out anything else you want to know about the challenge.
How do I raise money?
👉 Set up your Facebook fundraiser page in a few seconds by following this link. It’s so easy to get started and raise vital funds to support our work. Once you have set up your page, share it with your Facebook friends by inviting them to your page, share it in posts or provide a link or QR code to encourage your friends to donate to your fundraiser. Or you can set up a page on JustGiving if you prefer by going here.
How do I create a Facebook Fundraiser?
👉 We have made it easy to set up your Facebook fundraiser- simply click this link and you will be guided to set it up in only a few seconds.
How do I find my fundraiser on Facebook?
👉 To find your Facebook Fundraiser visit this link.
How do I maximise donations on my Facebook Fundraiser?
1.) Go on to your fundraiser and scroll down.
2.) Click on invite to ask specific friends to donate – this can be really effective. People who do this are 4 times more likely to reach their goal.
3.) Click on ‘Share’ to just post the fundraising page on your feed. If you add a note saying why you are doing the challenge, people are more likely to sponsor you.
4.) Click on ‘Write a post’ to share an update – e.g., a photo of you in your challenge T-shirt, or the stairs you have been climbing on. You will need to adjust your settings to give Facebook access to your photos. It will prompt you if so; you can allow access to all or just specific photos.
How do I thank my donors?
👉 When someone donates you’ll get a notification. If you click on that it will take you to your fundraising page with a message saying so-and-so donated, then you can click comment and thank them that way.
Or go to https://www.facebook.com/fundraisers/manage and you’ll see everyone who has donated and then you can comment underneath and tag them.
I think I have set up two fundraisers by mistake!
👉 It’s a good idea to only have one active fundraiser page open for your challenge. If you think you have more than one, you can check here (make sure you are logged into Facebook first). Focus your fundraising to one page by closing down the duplicates. You can do this by changing the end date of the fundraiser page you don’t need anymore – don't worry if there are donations on that page, they will still get transferred to us.
How do I reopen my Facebook fundraiser if it has closed?
👉 Unfortunately once your fundraiser has closed, you can’t reopen it. Facebook fundraisers close automatically after 15 days so it’s important that you change the end date of your page to ensure it stays open throughout your challenge. If your page has closed then not to worry, simply create a new fundraiser by going here. Then write a post on your new page to say how much you raised on your previous page, and thank those who’ve already sponsored you!
How does The Salvation Army receive the money I raise from Facebook?
👉 All the funds you raise via your Facebook fundraiser get sent directly to us from Facebook so you don’t need to do anything further – fab!
Where and how can I complete my steps?
👉 The world is your tall building! You can climb any steps available to you – in your home, block of flats, your local park, train station, shopping centre, workplace... Get creative, have some fun and remember to share your climb on the Facebook group to inspire others!
How do I record how many steps I have climbed?
👉 You can simply count the number of steps you climb, or you can record your steps via a range of pedometer apps available in Google Play Store or the App Store. Our fabulous scratch poster makes it easy to keep track – simply choose the number of steps, scratch off to reveal the building and tick once complete!
Do I need to provide evidence that I’m doing the challenge?
👉 You don’t need to provide The Salvation Army with evidence of yourself doing the challenge, and we won’t militantly check your steps! Although, it is very good for motivation, and will help you raise money, if you do have photos of yourself completing the challenge and are engaging with your supporters regularly on your Facebook page.
Do I have to climb the building in one go?
👉 No, you can break up the climb to suit you. For example, you may like to climb a few flights of stairs during your morning commute, set about some more on your lunch break and complete your building's total on your way home or after dinner.
What is the total number of stairs I will climb in June?
👉 There’s 46128 stairs in total which divided by 30 days works out to be 1537.6 stairs per day.
What happens if I can’t do the climb on one day?
👉 This challenge is super flexible so if you find you are very busy on one day, you can climb multiple buildings on another day! We’ve also purposefully included some buildings which are shorter to climb for those days you have less time to spare.
Do I have to follow the order of the buildings on the scratch poster?
👉 No, it’s up to you which buildings you would like to climb on each day. We’ve arranged the buildings to spread out the more difficult ones, but if you would like to get the skyscrapers out the way first (or save for last!) you're most welcome.
Can I start early or late?
👉 Yes! You start climbing your buildings as soon as you get your scratch poster or if you're joining us a little later, you can double up on your buildings and do more than one a day!
Can I count the steps going down as part of my total?
👉 It's of course more of a challenge to only count the steps you climb, but you are welcome to also count the steps going down if you feel that works better for you.
Can I just walk it?
👉 Yes! We want this challenge to be accessible to all strengths and abilities, so you are welcome to walk the steps if that is more comfortable for you.
How can I make the challenge harder/ easier?
👉 You can make the challenge easier by counting the steps going down, or you could walk the challenge instead of climbing at an incline.
I use a wheelchair, how can I complete the challenge?
👉 You can use an arm crank ergometer if there is one available at your local gym, or you’re welcome to complete your ‘climb’ in any way that works for you.
Is there a fundraising target?
👉 We're incredibly thankful for whatever you raise, for example £100 could help to keep our safe and supportive community centres open all year round, for children and families who are struggling to cope.
By taking on this challenge, you can use your courage and compassion to make a vital difference to the work we do, and for that we are especially grateful.
Can my fundraising go towards another project?
👉 Absolutely! Funds raised through your incredible efforts can go towards any Salvation Army project or Salvation Army Church close to your heart. Just let us know by emailing 30TallestBuildings@salvationarmy.org.uk and provide us with the link to your Facebook fundraiser.
Does Facebook deduct any fees from my fundraising?
👉 No, Facebook does not charge any fees for donations made to charities through your Facebook fundraiser page, so we will receive 100% of whatever your raise.
Can I take part I don’t have Facebook?
👉 Absolutely! We are thrilled you’d like to join the challenge. The best way to collect sponsorship outside of Facebook is to set up an online fundraising page via JustGiving, which you can create here. Similar to Facebook, the funds you raise are sent directly to us and you can also share your page with friends and family to get sponsored on your challenge.
Can I raise money without setting up an online fundraising page?
👉 Of course! You are welcome to raise funds by using a sponsorship form. You can download your form here. Remember to ask your supporters to fill out their details so we can claim up to 25% Gift Aid.
How can I get a scratch poster and t-shirt if I am not on Facebook?
👉 Once you have set up a JustGiving page, we will be in touch with how to get your t-shirt and scratch poster. If you are doing this event offline, please email 30TallestBuildings@salvationarmy.org.uk
How can I send in sponsorship money I’ve collected offline?
👉 Please go here for all the details on how to pay in your offline funds.
How do I get my free t-shirt and scratch poster?
👉 Once you have filled out the registration form, we will send you your 30 Tallest Buildings Scratch Poster and T-shirt. Your pack will likely take 10 days to arrive. If you have not received your goodies and it's been more than 14 days since you registered, please email 30TallestBuildings@salvationarmy.org.uk and we will investigate further.
I’ve not yet received my scratch poster or t-shirt.
👉 If it’s been more than 14 days since you registered, not to worry, just email 30TallestBuildings@salvationarmy.org.uk and we will investigate further.
What if I don’t complete the challenge?
👉 Sometimes life doesn’t go to plan, and you may feel you need to step back from the challenge – and that’s okay! What matters to us is that you used your courage and compassion to get involved in this challenge and helped to spread awareness about our work. Keep your sponsors updated about what’s going on and how far you got, and do check they are still happy for their donations to go to our work.
We would love to welcome you back to our team for another challenge, so please stay in touch and thank you for your support.
