Cambridge Salvation Army ‘carolathon’ to be broadcast live on Facebook

published on 20 Dec 2017

A small group from The Salvation Army’s Cambridge brass band is preparing to play 115 carols back to back in two hours.

The carol marathon will be broadcast live on Cambridge Citadel Salvation Army’s Facebook page on Thursday 21 December from 7:30pm. Money raised will go towards The Salvation Army’s work in Cambridge.

Major Martin Cordner, church leader of Cambridge Citadel Salvation Army and cornet player in Thursday’s brass group, said: “This is a first for Cambridge Salvation Army. Every year you will see us out and about in the city playing carols but we have never attempted to play the entire carol book from cover to cover in one go.

“If you have a favourite carol, I can pretty much guarantee we will be playing it on Thursday. We are inviting people to get in touch and either tell us their favourite carol or dedicate a carol and we will give you a shout-out during the broadcast.”

Money raised will go towards The Salvation Army’s ongoing work in Cambridge as the church hopes to redevelop its building on Tenison Road/Mill Road to better serve the local community.

Current community services include a drop-in centre for people experiencing homelessness, a parent and toddlers group, as well as a knitting club, carpet bowls and a lunch club for older people.
