In 1890, William Booth, the founder of The Salvation Army, bought Hadleigh Farm to help unemployed men back into employment by giving them the chance to train and learn new skills in farming.  Finding them employment in Britain, Canada Australia and New Zealand.

Today Hadleigh Farm remains a place of opportunity removing barriers to employment, with our employment training centre and we continue to farm 400 acres of conventional crops, 100 acres of organic crops and 300 acres of organic grassland which is grazed by the cattle.

Visit our tea rooms, farm shop and rare breeds centre and pause to admire the vista over Hadleigh Castle ruins and across the Thames Estuary.

Our Tea rooms

offer idyllic views of Hadleigh Castle Country Park and The Thames Estuary.

Join us for breakfast; from a full English, vegetarian, lighter option to porridge, a warm welcome to start you day.

Pop in for lunch and feast on salad, jacket potatoes, vegetarian and light meals.

Or relax with a Cream Tea, a homemade cake or just a pot of tea on the terrace and soak in the peace and tranquillity.

The Farm

The farm’s soil type is gravel over clay and landslips are progressive. The marshland is drained for cropping. The River Thames is in close proximity which can lead to a mild, wet climate.

The farm has joined the countryside stewardship scheme to help enhance the environment. Work which has been undertaken includes hedge planting and laying, the planting of beetle banks and conservation strips and tree planting, which all helps to encourage wildlife.

We farm 400 acres of conventional crops, 100 acres of organic crops and 300 acres of organic grassland which is grazed by the cattle.
