Portraits - a month in the life of The Salvation Army is a new book that offers a fascinating insight into the life and mission of The Salvation Army in the UK and Republic of Ireland today.

The 160-page hardback publication contains more than 500 images of Salvation Army work in local communities captured during the month of October 2011. Most of the colour and black and white images in Portraits were taken by members, volunteers, employees and clients to give their eye-view of how the Christian church and charity helps people of all ages, backgrounds and needs.

Portraits is divided into seven sections featuring different aspects of Salvation Army life and includes messages from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the current international leader of The Salvation Army, General Linda Bond.

The glossy publication is published to coincide with The Salvation Army’s commemoration of 100 years of the final public address of its co-founder William Booth, given at the Royal Albert Hall in May 1912. Those attending the I’ll Fight Congress this weekend (26-27 May) at the Royal Albert Hall can purchase the book price £14.95 (not including P&P) and view an exhibition that features some of the images used along with many hundreds more that were not able to be included.
