Please help us be a friend to those who have nowhere else to turn

Winter AppealAs we face greater demands on our services than ever before, we’re working hard to ensure that we’re doing everything we can to support those in need in today’s society - including single-mothers like Sarah.

Sarah came to us when her landlady threw her, and her two young children, out onto the streets late one night. With no family living in the area she had no one to turn to and nowhere to go. As the night grew darker, Sarah came across her local Salvation Army centre and went inside seeking help. She was warmly greeted by Major Rose who comforted her before giving her food parcels and helping her find emergency accommodation.

Over the next few weeks, Sarah continued coming to the centre to attend our support groups, such as the lone parent group. Sarah was also able to bring her children to our toddler groups while she completed online training and courses. As well as providing her with emotional and practical support, coming to the centre has introduced her to new friends and she now feels like a member of the community.

Thanks to our help and your generosity, Sarah was able to find a permanent job, new accommodation and build a new life for her and her children.

Every day people like Sarah need our help – and that’s why we need yours. Please help us give someone a fresh start this summer.

£26 could pay for two weekly parent-and-toddler groups where disadvantaged children can play in safety.

£52 could pay to keep a day centre for older people open for a day – providing hot meals and the promise of companionship.

£90 could pay for a bed for a month for a homeless person at one of our Lifehouses – which is often the first step towards rebuilding their lives.
