Hadleigh Training Centre

Meeting the needs of each individual

The staff of Hadleigh Training Centre

At the Centre

We offer a wide programme of training to meet the needs of our client groups with the ultimate aim of achieving employment. The programme includes training in carpentry, catering and office skills with computing, estates management, horticulture, retail and graphics, with life skills running alongside all three for those who would benefit.

Trainees

Include those who have lost their confidence due to long-term unemployment; people with medical problems needing to change employment; women returning to work after raising a family; young people with low literacy skills who lack direction, or who have been through the care system and have taken knocks in life.

The programme

Is designed to meet the needs of each individual client, so it is accepted that there is some degree of flexibility regarding the criteria for acceptance on the programme.

Clients

Should be:
  • Aged between 16 and 55
  • Able to travel independently
  • Self-reliant when feeding and using the toilet
  • Able to handle their own medication

In order to benefit from the full range of the programme, clients should have at least basic communication skills, both verbal and written, although assistance is given to develop skills in this area.

A client currently abusing drugs or on solvents will not be eligible, but past users may be considered.

Clients are expected to maintain a good record of attendance and punctuality, and failure to do so may result in the termination of the placement.  There is an initial trial period of one month, to give staff and trainees the opportunity to assess the suitability or otherwise of the programme for the individual.

The optimum time spent on the programme is felt to be six months, but this may be extended if the client is likely to benefit by such an extension.  Certain placements may be shorter, either because of funding considerations, or because the agreed goals have been attained.
