The Salvation Army mission in Harrow has just moved out of the building on Roxeth Hill into the community, our building remains in use being hired by community groups, but as God's people we want to be more involved in our local area. We remain committed to serving and helping our local community as we always have but are just not based in the building. 

The Salvation Army was established in Harrow on 4th January 1887 and has been sited in the building on Roxeth Hill since 1906. We’ve been serving our community from that site ever since.

Over the last 12 months we have felt God calling us to serve our community in a new way and under His guidance we are replanting as a Fresh Expression of church. Our earnest desire is to be a loving and relevant expression of The Salvation Army and we are carefully and prayerfully exploring Jesus' will for us. 

Our service to the community is our act of worship and we engage with God through supporting others.

We want to say to you - Whatever your story, age, experiences, you belong here! We have a very simple mission – to love everyone, serve our community and share the message of Jesus!

Our Singing By Heart sessions are now twice a month at 2pm on the first and third Thursday of the month at South Harrow Baptist Church, for those living with dementia and their carers. All welcome!
The power of music, especially singing, to unlock memories is an increasingly key feature of dementia care as it seems to access parts of the brain that remain unaffected by the progression of dementia.

‘Singing By Heart’ uses a mixture of secular and religious songs which span the decades. Every song is introduced by a relevant scripture verse and concluded with a prayer. The sessions are designed to encourage communication, recollection of memories, and fun for those taking part. It is also hoped carers will find the sessions beneficial through enabling time for them to relax, make friends and share experiences.

COVID guidelines will be followed. We will have chairs spaced out, room ventilated and plenty of hand sanitiser!

New Opportunity - Starfish Mentoring Programme

Are you passionate about children reaching their full potential?

Would you like to become a Starfish mentor? We are delighted to let you know that we are planning to run a Starfish mentoring programme in our local area. Starfish is a Salvation Army mentoring programme working with children and young people in schools, aged 9 to 16 years. The aim of Starfish is to make a difference to young people, one by one. This is inspired by the story of the man who – one by one – throws stranded starfish back into the sea. Challenged on what difference it can possibly make to the thousands of beached starfish around him, he replies, ‘It made a difference to that one!’

Starfish is offered to local schools free of charge, offering early help focused on emotional health and wellbeing.

Why not volunteer at our Singing By Heart Dementia Friendly Group and join our excellent team of volunteers & hosts!!

All of our team become ‘Dementia Friends’, by undertaking the Alzheimer Society’s Dementia Awareness session. 

Volunteers will – build relationships, join in the singing, register attendees, organise name badges, hand out books, etc. 

Hosts to make drinks, etc

Clothing donations

There are numerous Salvation Army clothing banks across the borough where you can drop off any unwanted clothes, shoes or household textiles 24/7. We recommend that you pack donations in smaller bags rather than larger bags because they are easier to deposit.

Everything you donate is re-sold, reused or recycled, helping us lessen our impact on the environment while raising money to support our work. Click here for more information on where you can find the clothing banks.

Unfortunately we cannot accept any second-hand toys, bric-a-brac (ornaments/plates etc) or electrical items, furniture, bedding or duvets. 

We are unable to assist with house clearances.
